ABOUT

A small, private circle in Berlin for people who take pleasure seriously.

We are not a club of status or titles. What brings us together is curiosity, good conversation, and the belief that the best evenings are slow ones.

Membership is by invitation only. The circle grows through the people we trust.

WHY EL LECTOR

The reader at the rolling tables

In the cigar factories of Cuba, rollers worked in silence while a lector read aloud to them: newspapers, novels, the classics. Some of the most famous cigars still carry the names of the stories he read.

Every evening of ours begins the same way, with a story.

HOUSE RULES

  1. I

By invitation only. Guests come through an existing member, and that member is responsible for them.

  2. II

Guest first. Newcomers join one or two evenings as guests before becoming part of the circle.

  3. III

Your word counts. If you RSVP, you come. Repeated no-shows lose their seat.

  4. IV

Fair share. Costs are shared equally and paid in advance. No one counts the bill at the table.

  5. V

What’s said at the table, stays at the table. Discretion is part of the experience.

  6. VI

Present, not posting. Phones away during dinner. No photos of other members without their consent.

  7. VII

One table, one language. When anyone at the table doesn’t share your language, we speak English.

  8. VIII

No pitching. Connections happen naturally. This is not a place to sell, recruit, or network aggressively.

  9. IX

Respect the craft. Come curious, not to show off. Beginner or connoisseur, everyone is welcome at the table.

  10. X

Enjoy responsibly. Indulgence is the point; excess is not.

  11. XI

Bring something. A bottle, a venue idea, a story, or the right person. The circle stays alive through what members give back.

  12. XII

Dress the part. Smart elegant. A jacket is expected; a tie is optional.
